“1982” was written entirely using titles of songs that were in the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982 (I was 6 years old then and these were the songs I heard on the radio). Musically it pays homage to the sounds of the early 80s, it’s a slightly nostalgic tribute to another era in music but mostly it’s a celebration.
